We are proud of our legacy in Albuquerque and Bernalillo of passing immigrant integration policies which aim to safeguard civil rights, improve public safety, reduce racial profiling, and ensure that our limited local resources are not used to fuel federal deportation programs. Did you know that we passed our first immigrant-friendly/sanctuary policy in Albuquerque in 2000 with bi-partisan support? Since that time, we have strengthened our policies aimed at disentangling our local criminal justice systems from federal deportation programs, particularly vital as we fought back against the Trump administration’s ICE enforcement tactics to target, persecute, and deport our familias. In addition, we have given thousands of “know-your-rights” workshops, led by our organizers and trained “promotoras de derechos” giving immigrant communities the tools to assert their rights and lesson the likelihood of family separation.
