About Us
MISION/VISION
We believe in the power of collective action! Our members are the reason why EL CENTRO has been successful in the fight for immigrant rights and labor justice in Albuquerque. Our work gives a voice to hundreds of low-income immigrant workers in Albuquerque, supports community growth, and leads to victories in public policy. EL CENTRO uses a variety of strategies to drive social change, including community organizing, leadership development, advocacy for pro-immigrant policies, strategic communications, and civic engagement—to promote the rights of the Latino immigrant community and low-income workers and families in Albuquerque.
El CENTRO was founded in November 2005 as a separate, independent, and autonomous project of Enlace Comunitario, a pro-immigrant, service-based organization, in order to organize and grow the power of low-wage immigrant workers in Albuquerque. On July 1, 2009, El CENTRO legally separated from Enlace Comunitario and incorporated as an independent non-profit agency. Since its inception, El CENTRO has grown a membership of over 5500 members, the majority of whom are low-wage immigrant workers and has been at the forefront of bold and innovative immigrants’ rights, workers’ justice, and inclusive economy campaigns in New Mexico.
