We urge legislators and Governor Martinez to make a choice not to discriminate against immigrant familIes! New Mexico can comply with the Real ID Act without taking away licenses from undocumented immigrants. We oppose any type of legislation that would issue discriminatory ‘driving permits’/driving privilege cards, which would indicate a person’s immigration status and would expose our families to racial profiling and family separation.
New Mexico has a proud legacy of passing common sense policies that are conducive to integrating immigrants into the mainstream. It is not time to go backward! We need to continue to choose dignity not discrimination!
